Abstract

The State Museum of Papua Province has many diverse collections from each district in Papua which are cultural heritage from the past, but this wealth is not proportional to the number of visitors to the museum. The main problem studied based on field studies is that the State Museum of Papua Province has not fulfilled the purpose of the museum as a recreational facility because even though it is located in a crowded area, the museum does not have the facilities to invite a large audience so that the museum is always quiet, apart from that the arrangement of collection objects there is less informative (there is no separation of collections so that it is easier for visitors to study and enjoy the collections. The purpose of this research was to redesign the Permanent Exhibition Room at the State Museum of Papua Province. This research was conducted using data search methods in the form of interviews, observation, and literature study/ literature, methods of analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, then methods of redesigning the Permanent Exhibition Space. The concept of redesign is carried out by prioritizing the function of the museum as a place of recreation that is culturally educative in nature, namely a place of recreation that tells the life of the Papuan people in the past amau and now, so as to be able to attract the attention of the public to pay a visit to the museum, thus the mindset of the people who regard the museum as a 'warehouse of antiquities' can be transformed into a 'warehouse of knowledge and recreation'.
